President, PM pay respect at National Memorial

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have paid profound respect to the greatest sons of the soil placing wreaths at the National Memorial at Savar.

The President entered the National Memorial at 5:55am on March 26 (Friday) first and then the Prime Minister. They paid their respect by placing wreaths.

After placing wreaths, they stood some time in solemn silence remembering the valiant sons of this soil who laid down their lives during the War of Liberation in 1971.

People from all walks of life, including families of Bir Shreshthas, war wounded freedom fighters, members of the diplomatic corps, leaders of different political parties, social, cultural and professional bodies, started laying wreaths at the National Memorial.

The day’s programmes began by heralding a 50-gun salute early in the morning as a mark of profound respect to the heroic struggle of this nation, which suffered a protracted subjugation under foreign rules from time to time till achieving their coveted independence in 1971.
