Vijay Deverakonda reacts after receiving backlash for his ‘pro-dictatorship’ comment

  • Deverakonda has been accused of sharing regressive views by trolls
  • The actor had maintained silence on the trolling until the latest video post
  • He will be working on Fighter later this year

Vijay Deverakonda has been in the news cycle ever since, earlier in the week, he opined in an interview that universal adult suffrage doesn’t make sense to him because the poor get enticed by cheap liquor and cash. He went on to profess the view that the right to vote should not be universal. He even said that he would prefer a benevolent dictatorship. The Arjun Reddy actor said that he would like to be a dictator himself. “That’s the only way you can change. We need to have a good guy as a dictator,” he added.

The views have been described by critics and social media users as regressive, backward-looking, elitist and harebrained. His name has trended on Twitter for several hours for all the negative reasons, with a number of verified profiles calling out Deverakonda for being “idiotic”.

In the face of the backlash, the Telugu superstar has taken to Twitter to post a video clip in which he described himself as a “benevolent fun dictator”. The handsome actor is seen playing dart and feeling good about hitting the target.

Several fans welcomed VD’s post, with some expressing relief that the “negativity” doesn’t seem to have affected him.

On the work front, Vijay awaits the release of Puri Jagannadh’s Fighter in 2021. A few days back, the actor announced his new project with Rangasthalam director Sukumar. “The actor in me is super excited. The audience in me is celebrating! We guarantee you memorable Cinema.. I can’t wait to be on set with @aryasukku sirrr (sic),” he wrote on Twitter. The untitled film, which will release in 2022, will be produced by Falcon Creations’ Kedar Selagamsetty.
