Guidelines sent for reopening schools, colleges on March 30

Country’s educational institutions are going to be reopened on March 30 next following health guidelines strictly after remaining closed for long one year.

The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has already directed the authorities concerned to take necessary preparations for reopening their repective educational institutions.

In an office order, the DSHE gave the directives to the authorities concerned including the heads of the educational institutions on Tuesday (March 16).

The office order said that directives have been given to take necessary preparations to start the learning activities by reopening all the government and non-government secondary and higher secondary educational institutions on March 30.

Besides, if any educational institution requires repair or renovation, the Local Government and Engineering Department LGED) and Education Engineering Department (EED) have also been asked to complete the work before March 30.

The office order further said that the DSHE, Inter-educational Board Coordination Sub-Committee, and Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Boards have been given directives to take examinations on brief syllabuses providing 60 days of lessons to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees and 80 days of lessons to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees.

Earlier on Friday (March 12), Education Minister Dipu Moni said the date of reopening the educational institutions might be deferred if coronavirus infection continues to increase.

“We’re closely monitoring the situation. Safety of students, teachers and guardians must get first priority. The date for reopening the educational institutions may be deferred once again if coronavirus infection continues to rise,” she said.

At an inter-ministerial meeting on February 27 last, the education minister said that all the schools and colleges of the country would be reopened on March 30.

She also said delivering lessons inside classrooms at all public universities would start from May 24, while the residential halls will reopen on May 17. Before it, all kinds of classes and examinations will remain suspended. All the residential students, teachers and employees at the public universities will be given Covid-19 vaccine by May 17.
