The authorities of Dhaka Metropolitan Police have taken four-tier security measures in and around the Central Shaheed Minar ahead of Shaheed Dibas and International Mother Language Day on February 21, said DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.

He said: “Like in the previous years, there will be four-tier security in and around the Central Shaheed Minar this year too. There is no security threat centering the Day. We, however, are on the highest alert to avert any untoward incident.”

The DMP boss made the comments today after inspecting the overall security arrangements at the Central Shaheed Minar.

Talking about the security arrangements, he said, the whole area of the Central Shaheed Minar will remain under the closed circuit camera televisions (CCTVs) and none will be allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar premises without archway and security check.

Besides, members of the law enforcement agencies will be deployed to ensure security round the clock while SWAT, bomb disposal units and dog squads will be kept ready to avert any untoward incident, the DMP commissioner added.

The whole area of the Shaheed Minar will be swept by dog squads at the night of February 20, Shafiqul said, adding there will be DMP watch towers surrounding the Shaheed Minar from where the whole Shaheed Minar area will be monitored round the clock.

The commoners can go to the venue through Palashi via Jagannath Hall, the DMP chief said, adding that the people will exit through Romon Chattar and Doel Chattor after placing the floral wreaths.
