Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the birth and death anniversary of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), will be observed across the country on October 30 as the Rabiul Awal moon was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh on Saturday.

It was announced following a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Islamic Foundation Baitul Mukarram conference room on Saturday evening.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Md Altaf Hossain Chowdhury presided over the meeting.

Altaf Hossain Chowdhury said according to the information received from all the district administration, Islamic Foundation head office, divisional and district offices, Meteorological Department, SARSO, moon of the month of Rabiul Awwal month was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh’s sky on Saturday evening. So, 30 days of the month of Safar will be fulfilled on Sunday and the counting of the month of Rabiul Awwal will begin on Monday. Therefore, the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi will be observed in the country on October 30.

The Eid-e-Miladunnabi this year will be observed using digital media in a provision of maintaining health guidelines and social distancing in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country, a press release said earlier.

As part of the programmes, the President and the Prime Minister will issue messages on the occasion. National flag will be hoisted at the government, semi-government and autonomous offices, private buildings and all armed forces structures on the day.

Besides, national flag and ‘Kalema Tayeba’ written banners will be exhibited at different important throughfares while government buildings and important structures will be illuminated on the night of the Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

Marking the day, Islamic Foundation will publish a special supplementary and draw a fortnight-long special programmes, including discussions on the life of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) and holding milad mahfils.

Discussions on the life and works of Muhammad (PBUH) and milad mahfils will also be held at all divisions, districts, upazilas, city corporations, municipalities and armed forces division and private organisations across the country.

Special programmes highlighting the significance of the Eid-e-Miladunnabi will be broadcast on Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and virtual media. The Shishu Academy will arrange special programmes for children on the day.

Besides, improved diet will be served among patients at hospitals, inmates in jails, government Shishu Sanad, old homes and drug addiction treatment centres. Bangladesh missions abroad will also observe the day in a befitting manner.

Special security measures will be taken to maintain law and order situation across the country on the occasion of the Eid-e-Miladunnabi.
