Bus services suspended in different districts

The owners and workers of different transportation companies have halted the services in different districts of the country on Friday morning, citing safety reasons.
They have sought the safety of the workers and vehicles during the ongoing student protest demanding safe roads across the country.
Contacted, senior leaders of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation said transport services are being halted fearing lack of security.
In Dhaka, several hundred of transport workers have taken to the street and blocked the important points of the capital, seeking protection from the authorities.
According to Media reports and our correspondents on different points of the city, the transport workers of different companies took position near Mirpur 10, Kalsi intersection, Mirpur 1, Technical intersection, Gabtoli, Airport Road, Sayedabad and Jatrabari intersection around 10 am this morning.
They blocked the roads and are not letting any vehicles passing through the streets, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.
Meanwhile, they stop plying all public transportations on the roads.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Wari Division) Farid Uddin said: “The transport workers have taken to the street citing lack of security. Police are performing their duties and no untoward situation will be created.”
In Habiganj, transport owners call an indefinite strike, protesting “harassment” and demanding safety of transport workers.
Habiganj Motor Owners’ Group General Secretary Shankha Shubhra Roy said: “The government must clear the roads and tackle the protesting students so that we can ply vehicles on roads peacefully.”
In Comilla, no buses left for Dhaka from Shashongacha and Jangalia bus terminals. Transport owners have decided not to ply their buses for Dhaka until the situation becomes normal, said the workers.
In Rajshahi, all inter-district and local bus services were halted as transport owners’ association extended their support with the strike demanding security of the vehicles and transport workers.
Besides, inter-district bus communication remained suspended in Chandpur and Sylhet districts as well.
