  • Sooryavanshi was earlier scheduled to release on March 24, 2020
  • Later, the film was reportedly scheduled for Diwali release
  • However, there seems to be a change in the plan now

With the centre allowing cinema halls to open from October 15 with 50% seating capacity, people have finally found a ray of hope. It is expected that some of the films, which were temporarily delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, might see the light of the day now. However, one of the most-anticipated films of the year, Sooryavanshi, which was earlier scheduled to release on March 24, might not release on Diwali this year. The film marks Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s reunion on the big screen ten years after their film Tees Maar Khan. But, their fans will have to wait a little more to watch the film on the big screen.

Since the day lockdown was announced, the makers of Sooryavanshi were adamant on not releasing the film on any OTT platform. And that continues to be the case. While the makers were apparently eyeing for November 14 release for Sooryavanshi, there seems to be a change in the plan.

Shibasish Sakar, the CEO of Reliance Entertainment, has informed Mid-Day that it is impractical to release Sooryavanshi on Diwali this year. “It’s not practical to release Sooryavanshi on Diwali because we don’t know whether cinemas in major states are opening yet. The state governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have announced that their cinema halls will remain shut this month. So, it will be fair to assume that most states will open up only by December 1,” he told the leading tabloid.

That clearly means fans will have to patiently wait until the makers officially announce the new release date of Sooryavanshi. The film has been directed by Rohit Shetty and it is a part of his cop franchise. Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn will be seen in cameo appearances.

And needless to add, the wait to watch this film just gets harder.
