Turag junkshop explosion death toll rises to 4

The death toll from a chemical explosion at a junkshop in Rajabari Kamarpara area of Turag in Dhaka rose to four after another victim succumbed to his wounds.

The 35-year-old Mizanur Rahman died while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS) around 1 am on Monday, said inspector Bachchu Mia of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost.

He was admitted to the hospital with 60 per cent burns.

Three other burn victims Noor Hossain, 60, Alamgir Hossain Alam, 23, and Gazi Mazharul Islam, 47, also succumbed to their injuries in the incident.

Eight persons were injured severely after a chemical blast occurred at the junkshop in Turag around 11:30 am on Saturday. The fire spread soon in the adjacent rickshaw garage.

Doctors said that the condition of the remaining four people is still critical.
