Tamim Iqbal, the Bangladesh opener, indicated on Saturday that he is likely to make his international return during the upcoming ODI series against the Windies.

Tamim, who sustained a fractured wrist that cut short his Asia Cup campaign in September, was set to return for the start of the Windies series but had to delay his comeback plans after picking up a side strain during an individual training session in November.

The left-hander has now expressed hope of being available for the three 50-over games against the Windies which starts from December 9. But before that he will feature in the practice game on December 6 to assess his match fitness.

“If everything goes well I should be available from the beginning of the ODIs against West Indies,” Tamim told reporters at the academy premises on Saturday. “But before that I am looking forward to play the practice game at BKSP.”

During the second day’s play of the ongoing second Test between Bangladesh and the Windies at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Steve Rhodes and the rest of the coaching staff took some time off to visit the academy ground where Tamim was batting in the nets facing Mustafizur Rahman, Ariful Haque and Khaled Ahmed.

Tamim, currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme, was named in the BCB XI team that will face the Windies in the practice match. ODI skipper Mashrafe Mortaza was named the captain for the 13-member side which also includes Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun and Rubel Hossain.

BCB XI squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Soumya Sarker, Mohammad Mithun, Tawhid Riday, Ariful Hoque, Akbar Ali, Rubel Hossain, Mithun Joy, Shahin Alam, Medidy Hasan Rana, Nazmul Islam Apu.
