Seven policemen were killed and four others went missing as the Taliban militants attacked a police checkpoint in Khan Abad district of the northern Kunduz province on Saturday, district official Qudratullah Safi said.

“The Taliban rebels stormed a security checkpoint in Dagari area of Khan Abad district early today (Saturday), triggering heavy fighting which lasts for a while and as a result, seven police personnel were killed and four others went missing,” Safi told Xinhua.

The militants might have taken hostage the four missing policemen, the official further said.

Taliban militants who have intensified activities amid Afghan peace talks in Doha have not commented.

However, locals have confirmed the clash, saying the Taliban militants and local police had clashed for more than one hour in Dagari village Saturday morning and both sides suffered casualties.
