‘Matter is out of my control’: BUET VC’s comment sparks anger



The students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have burst out in anger following Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Saiful Islam’s remarks that the matter is out of his control now.

The students, who have been staging protest to press home their seven-point demand, including banning student politics in the institution, called upon the VC to meet all their demands with an immediate effect. But, when the VC declined to make any immediate decision, they started chanted “Bhua, Bhua…”

In response, the VC said: “I have accepted all the demands personally but first I need to discuss those with the members concerned.”

Hearing this, the protesting students became restless and urged Prof Dr Saiful to make immediate announcement regarding their demands.

At one stage of talks, the VC said: “The matter is not under my control anymore.” Then, he quit the place immediately, leaving the students in despair.

The demonstrating students declared to continue their ongoing protest until all their demands are met.

Earlier in the day, Professor Dr Saiful Islam appeared on the campus around 5 pm, 26 hours after the murder of Abrar Fahad and faced the media and the students
