Make youths skilled in science, IT

President Abdul Hamid yesterday asked all concerned, including the university authorities, to develop the young generation as skilled manpower in science and information technology (IT) to face the new challenges of the 21st century at the national and international levels.
“There is no alternative to acquiring skills to survive in this competitive world… The science and applied education should be expanded from primary to higher levels,” he told the “Sixth Convocation 2023” of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) at Mirpur Cantonment.
The president, also the university’s chancellor, said, “Skilled human resources should be developed through analytical and applicable education. Curriculum should be designed in line with the existing labour market as there is no substitute for demand-based and work-oriented education at present.”
Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was the convocation speaker. Education Minister Dipu Moni, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, BUP Vice-Chancellor Maj Gen Md Mahbub-ul Alam, chiefs of the three services and BUP pro-VCs, treasurer and registrar were present at the event.
On the occasion, 36 graduates were awarded “Chancellor Gold Medal” while 29 received “Vice-Chancellor Gold Medal”.
