Ek character ek actor ko amar kardeta hai,’ said Jersey actress Mrunal Thakur while heaping praise on Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi.
The actress, who has worked with stars such as Hrithik Roshan in Super 30, Farhan Akhtar in Toofan and John Abraham in Batla House, made her debut in 2018. To step into the world of Hindi cinema, after entertaining viewers with daily soaps, Mrunal had picked a serious film based on sex slavery. And when the 29-year-old watched the bold and risky subject being brought to life by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, she was moved.
In a candid with Zoom Digital, when we asked Mrunal Thakur which recently-released film made her go ‘Oh! I wish I was a part of this film’, she instantly chose Gangubai Kathiawadi. The Dhamaka actress also shared why the movie felt so personal.
“I saw Gangubai 4-5 times in the theatre and I felt like, Har ek character ek actor ko amar kardeta hai, jaise be it Madhubala for Mughal-E-Azam, ya Dirty Picture mein Vidya Balan. Similarly, Alia ke career me it is Gangubai,” she said.
“When I watched it I really felt like, the way it was shot… And who doesn’t want to be a part of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film? It was such a bold and risky subject,” Mrunal added.
Elaborating further, the Love Sonia actress said, “This is how I started my career with, a film based on brothels and sex trafficking so I really felt like I wanted to be a part of that film as well. It felt very personal because I started my journey with a film like this.”
