Illegal mobile phones will not work anymore after June



Mobile phones coming to the country through illegal channels cannot be used without IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number after June this year, said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder on Thursday.

IMEI is a 15-digit number which is used to identify mobile devices.

Addressing a press conference at BTRC Head Office in Dhaka, he said all the illegal and fake mobile phones will go out of operation from July 1. Registration of the mobile handsets used by the customers will begin on the same day. The illegal handsets now exist in the market will not work anymore.
