Heavy rain causes severe waterlogging in Dhaka

Incessant rain caused severe waterlogging in the capital on Saturday, paralysing the capital for hours and bringing immense sufferings to the city dwellers.

The waterlogging caused by incessant rains from the morning led to severe traffic congestion across the capital.

The incessant rain exposed the pitiable conditions of Dhaka city’s drainage system.

As the downpour gradually intensified, many roads, lanes and by-lanes in the capital were submerged in knee-deep to waist-high water, leading to the  severe traffic congestion and sufferings for commuters.

Rickshaws appeared as a means of relief in many water-logged areas.

The main city areas appeared less crowded as people preferred to stay indoors.

The areas which suffered most include Begum Rokeya Sarani, Shewrapara, Kazipara, Tejgaon, Karwan Bazar, Maghbazar, Malibagh and Mouchak, Dhanmondi 27, Asadgate, Darussalam Road, Bangsal, Alauddin Road, Nazirabazar, Lalbagh, Bangla Motor, Rajabazar, Sukrabad, Bijoynagar, Fakirapool, Mohakhali and Green Road.

Many commuters were seek stuck for hours on roads public transports as well as private vehicles. Many also resorted to wading through the water to reach their destinations.

According to the Met Office, the monsoon is active over Bangladesh and rain may occur again.
