Flood death toll rises to 68 as 26 die in 24 hrs

The death toll from flood in different parts of the country has climbed up to 68 with the report of 26 more deaths in the past 24 hours till Thursday morning.
According to the Directorate general of Health services (DGHS), a total of 46 people died in Sylhet division alone where 26 in Sunamganj district, 16 in Sylhet district, three in Moulvibazar district and one in Habiganj district.

After Sylhet divistion, most death case reported in Mymonsingh division. Five died in Mymensingh, Netorkona and Jamalpur districts each and three in Sherpur district.

Several districts of Rangpur division also affected by flood that claimed three lives in Kurigaram district and one in Lalmonirhat district.

Among the deceased, 45 drowned in the flood water and 14 died in lightning strikes.

Earlier, the DGHS said a total of 42 people died in the flood till Wednesday morning.
Sylhet, Sunamganj, Netrokona and Kurigram are the worst-hit districts where 13, 11, 10 and 9 upazilas were affected by the flood respectively.

A total 2,006 medical teams are working to provide various health services to the flood-affected people after 872 flood shelters have been opened in those areas.
