Eden College student dies falling from engine-run rickshaw

A student of Eden Mohila College died on Thursday after falling from an engine-run rickshaw at Bangshal in the capital.
Umme Salma, a 24-year old Master’s level student, fell down from the speeding rickshaw at about 4:00am on Thursday at Bangshal (July 21). Critically injured Umme Salma was later rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)’s emergency department where an on-duty doctor pronounced her dead.
Umme Salma, daughter of Golam Kibria, was hailed from Ward No. 3 under Omarpur union of Charfassion upazila in Bhola district. She was a Master’s student at Eden Mohila College. Relatives start wailing at her village home hearing about her death.
Salma’s cousin Hasan who accompanied her said: “After Eid holiday, my cousin and I arrived at Sadarghat in Dhaka from Bhola by a motor-launch. She was scheduled to attend a job interview which will be held on Friday (July 22).
“We got down from the launch at Sadarghat at about 3:30am. Later, we started for Razia Students Hostel boarding an engine-driven rickshaw from Sadarghat. When we just crossed the Fire Service office at Bangshal, the rickshawpuller sharply braked his rickshaw. As a result, Salma fell on the road and received major injury on her head. Later, she was taken to the emergency department of the DMCH where an on-duty doctor prononced her dead.”
DMCH’s police camp in-charge inspector Md Bacchu Mia said the body of Umme Salma has been kept at the morgue. The police station concerned has been informed about the matter.
