BNP members of parliament (MPs) have called for declaring the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s residence as ‘sub-jail,’ if necessary, to allow her going abroad for better treatment.

They also threatened to resign from Jatiya Sangsad if anything ‘undesirable’ happens to seriously ailing party chairman Khaleda Zia.

The BNP MPs issued the threat from a human-chain formed in front of Jatiya Sangsad at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Sunday.

They also sought President Md Abdul Hamid’s intervention in allowing party chief Khaleda Zia to go abroad for better medical treatment.

BNP parliamentary party leader Harunur Rashid MP, Golam Mohammad Siraj MP, Mosharraf Hossain MP, Harunur Rashid MP, and Rumeen Farhana MP of reserved seat for women.

The 76-year-old three-time former prime minister Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment at the CCU of Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She has reportedly developed new health complications.

“Don’t force us to leave parliament. I told earlier to accept our just demand. Otherwise, we will think whether we will leave parliament or not,” said Md Harunur Rashid MP.

The people of the country will be relieved if Khaleda is released, he said before describing the law minister’s clarification as ‘ridiculous.’
