COVID-19: 16 deaths, 785 cases in 24hrs

With the deaths of 16 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Friday, Bangladesh’s COVID-19 death count now stands at 7,734.
During this timeline, 785 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 5,20,690.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the matter through a press release signed by Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS, on Friday afternoon.
Health authorities also reported 833 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 4,65,279.
In the last 24 hours, 181 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 14,068 samples and tested 13,681.
With this, a total of 33,31,491 samples were tested in the country.
Among the newly deceased, 13 were men and the rest three were women. Of them, 12 are from Dhaka, two from Chattogram, one from Khulna, and Mymensingh divisions each.
The infection rate is 5.74 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 15.63 per cent.
So far, the recovery rate is 89.36 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.49 per cent.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
According to Worldometer’s COVID-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 19,08,608 people globally and infected 8,85,95,887 as of today afternoon.
