Body of Prof Ajoy taken to Central Shaheed Minar



The body of renowned Physicist Professor Dr Ajoy Roy has been taken to the Central Shaheed Minar premise at 11 am where people of all walks of life will show mutual respect.

The body was earlier taken to the his residence at Baily Road from Birdem Hospital.

Later, the body will be taken to the Department of Physics of Dhaka University and Jagannath Hall respectively. According to Ajoy’s wish, his body will be handed over to Birdem authority for medical research.

Anujit Roy, younger son of Ajoy, confirmed the news of donating his father’s body to Birdem.

Professor Dr Ajoy Roy breathed his last at his 84 around 12:30 pm on Monday at Birdem General Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Two research works of the Ekushey Padak-winning physicist have been reviewed by the Nobel Committee for Physics.

After retiring from Dhaka University’s physics department, he worked as the University Grants Commission Professor there.

The freedom fighter of the 1971 Liberation War actively took part in the 1952 Language Movement and the 1969 Mass Uprising as well.

His elder son Avijit, a science writer who lived in the US, was hacked to death by Islamist militants at Shahbagh just after leaving the Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Feb 26, 2015, with his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya.
