Bangladesh to import 3 lakh tonnes of wheat from Russia

Russia, the world’s biggest wheat exporter, has shown keen interest to export wheat required by Bangladesh.

Under the first phase, Bangladesh will import three lakh tonnes of wheat from Russia on a Government to Government (G2G) basis under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) to meet the growing demand for wheat in the country, said Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Thursday (August 11).

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder and Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Aleksander Mantytsky gave their consents during a meeting on Thursday (August 11).

The Ministry of Food said the Food Minister and Russian ambassador discussed various issues including Bangladesh’s economic development, expansion of bilateral trade and import of wheat from Russia.

During the meeting, the Russian ambassador Aleksander Mantytsky said there are immense potentials of expanding trade, commerce and investments between the two countries.
