Bangladesh to get 6.80cr doses of Covid vaccine under Covax facility

Bangladesh will get 6.80 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine from the Gavi–The Vaccine Alliance under the worldwide arrangement called ‘Covax’ facility within 2021.

Each dose of vaccine will cost an estimated amount of US$1.62 to $2.

The government will have to spend $1.25 to distribute each dose of vaccine.

It was told at a press conference held at the Directorate of Health on Wednesday.

Addressing the press conference, Dr Shamsul Huque Mridha, Director of Expanded Programme for Immunization (EPI), said Bangladesh will collect the vaccines from the Gavi through financing and the health directorate will submit the National Vaccine Deployment Plan on Covid-19 vaccination as per the condition.

“Those, who will submit the National Vaccine Deployment Plan first, will receive the vaccine supply first. Hopefully, we will submit it on the first day GAVI will start according to its guidelines,” Dr Shamsul Haque Mridha said.

This quantity of vaccine is additional to the Oxford vaccines from India’s Serum Institute via Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Chaired by Prof Dr ABM Khurshid Alam, Director General of the Health Directorate, senior officials of the DGHS were present.
