Awareness rally on sanitation, COVID-19 held at city slum

Residents of city’s Kalabagan slum on Tuesday joined a rally to create awareness among slum dwellers and community people for cleanliness campaign and fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Ward No. 5, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Slum-based Citizen Action Network (SCAN) project and Nagarik Odhikar Sangrakhan jointly arranged the rally at Kalabagan slum in association with Resource Integration Center (RIC), European Union and Solidarities International.
A good number of slum dwellers and locals participated in the rally.
RIC Project Coordinator SMA Muyeed said that there is no alternative than creating awareness among the relevant people for ensuring improved water, sanitation and waste management services for the slum dwellers and urban poor. SCAN project has been organizing this type of event throughout the year for this reason, he added.
Slum dwellers expressed their satisfaction for getting water, sanitation and waste management related services from the government and non-government organizations. They used to suffer from various diseases due to lack of proper water, sanitation and waste management services, they added.
It is to be noted that SCAN project is being implemented in 10 slums under 8 Wards of Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations since 2018.
