Alia Bhatt, Shah Rukh Khan’s production Darlings sold for Rs 80 crore to Netflix !

Alia Bhatt-starrer Darlings has been making waves ever since the project was announced in March 2021. The Bollywood star will be presenting the comedy-drama along with Shah Rukh Khan’s production house Red Chillies Entertainment. Movie buffs are quite excited for Darlings as it is Alia Bhatt’s first project as a producer.

Darlings is said to be based on a mother-daughter relationship. The cast and crew wrapped up the shoot for the film in September 2021. The team is currently busy with the post-production process.

If a recent report in a portal is to be believed, the makers have sold the rights of Darlings to a leading OTT platform for a whopping amount. The film will have a direct-to-web release. Netflix has reportedly bagged the digital rights for the film for a sum of Rs 80 crore. Yes, you read that right!

The makers of Darlings have cracked a deal with Netflix for exclusive streaming rights. They believed that their movie will be able to reach its target audience through an OTT medium and hence, they were talking to multiple players, the report added. Netflix finally bagged the rights by paying a huge amount. The film is expected to release on the streaming giant in the summer of 2022. The makers are yet to issue an official statement about the same.

“The film has been sold for a sum of Rs 80 crore, thereby making it one of the biggest deals for a female-led film,” a source told Pinkvilla.

Alia Bhatt, who is gearing up for the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, will be seen sharing screen space with Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma in Darlings.
