PM announces Tk5000 cr subsidy package for export-oriented industry

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a Tk5,000 crore subsidy package for the export-oriented industry as the sector likely to slip into recession due to the global spread of coronavirus.

The PM made the announcement this evening while addressing the nation on the occasion of the Independence and National Day- 2020.

She said: “I am announcing a Tk5,000 crore subsidy for the export-oriented industry in the country for paying the salary and other allowances of the staff and labourers.”

“The government has already extended the time limit for collecting the export revenue to six months from two months. In the meantime, the time limit for paying import bill from four months to six months,” she added.

Adding that Bangladesh Bank has taken several business-friendly initiatives, she further said: “The central bank has decided that no clients would be declared loan defaulter till the next June.”

“Besides, the ceiling for mobile banking has been upgraded and payments of NGO loan installment have also been suspended,” she added
