President, PM pay homage to Liberation War martyrs

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid tributes this morning to the Liberation War martyrs by placing wreaths at the National Memorial in Savar marking the 53rd Independence and National Day.
The president first placed a wreath at the altar of the memorial around 5:56am followed by the prime minister, reports our Savar correspondent.
Then, the president and the premier stood in solemn silence for a minute in memory of the martyrs of the Liberation War in 1971.
Later, Sheikh Hasina, who is also the president of Awami League, again paid homage at the altar on behalf of her party.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, Liberation War affairs minister, cabinet secretary, chiefs of Bangladesh armed forces and diplomats of different countries posted in Dhaka were present at the memorial.
After tributes by the heads of state and government, the National Memorial was opened to people of all levels to pay homage.
