AL MP Shamsul Haque Tuku elected deputy speaker of Parliament

Awami League MP Shamsul Haque Tuku was elected uncontested as the deputy speaker in the Jatiya Sangsad today (August 28, 2022). 

Tuku, lawmaker from Pabna-1 constituency, will be sworn in by President Abdul Hamid at 7:00pm today, according to the parliament secretariat.

The president will administer the oath at the President’s Chamber in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Chief Whip of parliament Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury Liton proposed Tuku’s name as the lone candidate for the post of Deputy Speaker.

AL lawmaker Kamrul Islam supported the proposal.

Although there was no other candidate for the post, Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury proposed voting in line with the rules of procedure.

Earlier, the 19th session of the 11th Parliament began at around 5:00pm today.
