Besides, the organization expresses fear that the risk of road accidents is high due to the increasing pressure of home-bound people.
Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity secretary general Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury said this at a press conference held at Sagar-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday.
BUET Accident Research Institute director Hadiuzzaman in the press conference said this time the road management is in danger of going into a coma due to pressure of passengers.
Hadiuzzaman said a total of 1.15 crore Eid holidaymakers left Dhaka in 2018 and 2019, according Accident Research Institute.
“Due to Coronavirus infection, the number of holidaymakers has decreased in the last four years. According to our data, at least 60 lakh people go to their village homes every Eid.”
He further said, “|According to an ongoing study, an average of 30 lakh people will leave Dhaka every day for four days before Eid. At this time 8 lakh people will be able to leave Dhaka by bus, one lakh by train, 1.5 lakh by launch, about 4 lakh by private car and 4 lakh by motorcycle. The remaining 12-13 lakh people will leave Dhaka by truck or train. Then the risk of an accident will increase.”
Hadiuzzaman said, “Schools, colleges and universities will be closed after 20th Ramadan. Family members who do not have any work should be sent home from that day. Those who are in jobs they can leave later. We can get some relief by implanting this plan.”
Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury said residents of the capital would suffer the most due to traffic jams during this year’s Eid holidays.
He asked authorities concerned to take steps to clear all footpaths, evict street hawkers and making roads free from illegal parking in the capital.
