Allu Arjun-starrer Pushpa is breaking box office stereotypes. The film, which started off with a lukewarm response has become a phenomenon. Having had a phenomenal run at ticket windows, the film has also started streaming on Amazon Prime Video in four languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The OTT giants will release the Hindi version of Pushpa on January 14.
However, this does not mean that the film’s business has slowed down at the box office. If reports are to be believed, Pushpa is actually doing better now, than when it first released. For one, it’s uninterrupted run at theatres could be a reason it is doing so well, considering major releases like Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey and Ram Charan, Jr Ntr and Alia Bhatt starrer RRR all pulled back owing to the resurgence of escalating COVID-19 cases.
Earlier today, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to share the film’s business. He wrote, “#Pushpa is slowing down, but the job is done… A big, fat total in the pandemic era clearly indicates the love this film has got from moviegoers… [Week 4] Fri 1.95 cr, Sat 2.56 cr, Sun 3.48 cr, Mon 1.10 cr. Total: ₹ 81.58 cr. #India biz”
However, interestingly, even though Pushpa saw a drop in collections, it has a nett total fourth week collection of around Rs 11.50 crore, which is easily better than the fourth week of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif-starrer cop drama, Sooryavanshi.
Pushpa: The Rise, starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles is a fictional action drama based on the lives of red sandalwood smugglers in the Seashachalam hills of Andhra Pradesh. The first part deals with the life of Pushpa Raj, a daily labourer, who inches his way into becoming one of the key players in the red sandalwood smuggling syndicate. The film also stars Fahadh Faasil as a corrupt cop, and Pushpa’s main antagonist.
