Terming the opportunists as ‘kawas’ (crows), Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said he doesn’t want to see them (kawas) in Awami League, because these ‘kawas’ have brought ‘bad names’ to the party.

“Awami League leaders and workers don’t criticise the party and the government. They don’t destroy any accomplishment. But, the ‘kawas’ destroy the party’s reputation. They bring bad reputation to the party. They destroy all the accomplishments of Sheikh Hasina. We must have to be cautious about these few ‘kawas.’ We don’t want ‘kawas,’ rather we want proper evaluation of dedicated leaders and workers of the party,” he said while speaking at the unit conference of the Ward No. 38 of Dhaka City (South) Awami League at Mahanagar Natyamancha in Gulistan on Sunday.

The word ‘kawa’ in Awami League was first uttered by the party general secretary Obaidul Quader in 2017. Speaking at a meeting of Sylhet District Awami League in that year, he mentioned that ‘kawas’ entered the party. The intruders of the party are also described using the same name.

Sheikh Taposh said the dedicated leaders and workers of Awami League don’t do anything wrong to the party and the government. They don’t do any harm to the reputation of the party and the government. The kawas only destroy the party’s reputation. “We don’t want to see kawas in the party. Rather, we want proper evaluation of the tested leaders and workers.”

“These few kawas bring bad names to the party. They destroy all the acheivements of the government and the party. We don’t want to see them in the party any more,” Taposh said.
