Seema Malhotra MP and local women’s groups host a charity event tonight to celebrate #Vote100 and women’s empowerment

Seema Malhotra MP, the Member of Parliament for Feltham and Heston, supported by a number of local women’s organisations, is tonight hosting a charity event celebrating #Vote100 and women’s empowerment. Vote100 marks a hundred years since women got the right to vote and this month also marks a hundred years since women got the right to stand for election. The event will also celebrate the contributions of Asian women like Sophia Duleep Singh who over a hundred years ago played a big part in campaigning for women’s votes. The event will also raise funds for Breast Cancer Now and The Mulberry Centre, with almost a hundred women from Hounslow alone diagnosed with breast cancer each year. Organisations supporting the event include, Mael Gael Group, Blissful Busy Bee, Voice of Women, Inspiring Indian Women, Trinjan Group, WAGES and the Punjabi Society of the British Isles.
Seema Malhotra MP was the first female Punjabi MP and the first women elected to Feltham and Heston, said
“This is a very special occasion supported by local women’s groups and Mayors of Ealing and Hounslow and local MPs. We still have a long way to go to achieve equal representation for women in politics. I hope that marking this hundred year anniversary will encourage more women to become interested in politics. Without women’s progress the world would never be as prosperous.”
