The Shadwell by-election will take place on the same day as the by-election for Lansbury ward which was announced in December following the resignation of former councillor Muhammad Harun.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer for Tower Hamlets, Will Tuckley, said: “Following the resignation of former councillor Amin, a by-election will take place in Shadwell ward on Thursday 7 February 2019.

“We have been able to arrange for both the Shadwell and Lansbury by-elections to take place on the same day. The council’s elections team is already hard at work putting the necessary preparations in place to ensure both by-elections run smoothly.

“We have robust processes in place to ensure our residents are free to cast their votes safely and securely and we work closely with the police and other partners to make sure candidates in both contests campaign in the spirit of free and fair democracy.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who is not already registered to vote, to do so now – it is a quick and easy process that allows you to have your say in the future of your ward and the wider borough.”

The full notice of election, including key dates, is available on the Shadwell notice page. Our website also has information about how to exercise your vote.
